Aerobatic Rating

Applicability

Aerobatic aeroplanes are classed as either Part 21 or non-Part 21. Holders of a Part-FCL pilot licence require an aerobatic rating in order to undertake aerobatic flights. There is no requirement to hold an aerobatic rating to fly aerobatics in a non-part 21 aeroplane if you are exercising the privileges of a UK national licence.

Pre-Course Entry

Applicants for an aerobatic rating shall have completed at least 40 hours of flight time, or in the case of sailplanes 120 launches as PIC, in the appropriate aircraft category, since the issue of the licence.

Training

The training course includes:

  • Theoretical knowledge instruction,

  • At least 5 hours or 20 flights of aerobatic instruction in the appropriate aircraft category;

    • This may include dual and supervised solo training flights.
